Specimen of the month: What am I?

Every month we feature two blogs written by volunteers, one describes an object in the Palace and one a plant from the Garden. It is a great way to learn more about the Palace. If you would like to contribute there is no set format so please do send in your ideas.

We’re grateful to Jamie Atwell for this fantastic specimen of the month blog.

What Am I ?

I am not made out of green cheese,

Nor full nor waning if you please.

I help to keep the grass at bay,

Producing lines in neat array.

Reliant on my handlers’ feet

To make the garden look so neat.

Fifty percent of the night sky

Is what, at times, you could descry -

If you wanted to crack the code,

Or just a pub in Lower Richmond Road.

‘Mezzaluna’, the Italians jape,

In honour of my distinctive shape.
