Flints, Foraging and Furs!

This blog was written by Beth, one of our Education Placement Students. To find out more about the Stone Age Event at Fulham Palace, please click here.

When I started my placement at Fulham Palace, I knew that I was bound to learn lots of new things but one thing I didn't expect to learn was that the site was occupied during the Stone Age! The most I knew about the Stone Age was from watching the Flintstones or Horrible Histories but since then I have learned all about “Flints, foraging and furs” - (and an axe head which was found on-site by volunteer Cathy that I can’t fail to mention!).

Working alongside Kate and Erin I have become more and more excited about the stone age event happening on June 20th. They’ve both worked hard to bring together an exciting array of people and activities to create “Flints, foraging and furs”. We would love for you to join us in volunteering at the event!

Something I am particularly excited about this event is the possibility of museum tours! I can’t even remember the last time I was allowed into my local co-op without queuing, let alone being allowed to go on a museum tour! This is proof of life returning to “normality”!

The stone age event “Flints, foraging and furs” has become a light at the end of the tunnel of getting our lives back for me. I can’t think of a better way to come together to celebrate the history of the palace and hopefully our last day before we are set free on June 21st!

I am so looking forward to our newfound freedom and I hope I can do it alongside you and meet more people working alongside the palace. We would love for as many volunteers as possible to join us on this family-friendly and fun day at the palace on 20th June, so now we have learned how to survive lockdown please do join us in learning how to survive in neolithic times which is guaranteed (and easily!) much more fun.
